The Woods Coffee Named Green Business of the Year

Bellingham, WA-November 20, 2008-The Woods Coffee has been named the 2008 “Green Business of the Year” by the Bellingham/Whatcom Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The honor is given every year to a company that shows exceptional focus on helping the environment. The award is to be presented at the annual awards banquet on December 8th at the Lakeway Inn and Conference Center.

One of The Woods Coffee’s core values is to “eliminate waste”. The Woods Coffee uses cups and lids made of biopolymer plants domestically grown in the United States that are both 100% recyclable and compostable. The Woods Coffee also complies with LEED guidelines in all construction projects, using locally supplied materials, local contractors and sustainable building products. Sustainability is at the core of everything The Woods Coffee does. From the purchase of coffee from small farms and co-ops to the furnishings used throughout its stores, The Woods Coffee is committed to long term sustainability.

Come in or drive thru any of The Woods Coffees’ eight locations in Bellingham, Lynden and Ferndale to experience Whatcom County’s largest locally owned coffee cafes! The Woods Coffee was established in 2002 by the Herman family of Lynden. With a dream of starting a chain of coffee shops, the family pooled their talents and resources to create the first store at Bender Plaza in Lynden. Six months later, they opened their second store, and have continued on a steady growth pattern throughout Whatcom County. The Woods Coffee is the official coffee of Ski to Sea and the Whatcom County Home Show.
