Bellingham, December 31st, 2009-Prior to The Woods Coffee annual employee Christmas party, the staff are asked to vote on a charity which they would like to donate the proceeds. For the 2009 donation, staff members overwhelmingly voted to give the proceeds to Rebound of Whatcom County. A raffle of several gifts are offered to the staff and they have the opportunity to purchase unlimited amounts of raffle tickets. The staff purchased $1500 worth of raffle tickets this year, and owner Wes Herman generously matched the amount to give Rebound of Whatcom County a total of $3000. All of The Woods baristas enjoyed the event; a barista commented “it was so fun to be part of the raffle, even if we didn’t win something we knew it was going to do good things in the community through Rebound of Whatcom County”.
The Woods Coffee and Rebound of Whatcom County have partnered in the past, launching a full day fundraiser back in May 2009. That event was also an overwhelming success at all nine Woods Coffee locations in Whatcom County, with radio stations KGMI and KAFE holding live broadcasts throughout the event and many baristas donating their tips to the fundraiser.
Rebound of Whatcom County is a local non-profit that is committed to equipping, strengthening and empowering children and families facing difficult life circumstances. They do this by working cooperatively with public and private organizations to build community through practical expressions of faith. Rebound offers after school care and tutoring, support groups, parenting classes and a summer day camp.
